It is the way the wind sounds like big wine barrels rolling down the street
that you notice
when you lay in bed listening sleepily
the way sheets of rain sweep over the city like smoke
that you notice
when you stand still to watch
the way that time does not stop but slows
that you notice
when you shed the burden of a day’s checklist
It is the silky sweetness of mango on your tongue
that you notice
when your soul stills
the aromatic jasmine of your green tea
that you notice
when you inhale deeply
and the quieter state of the world
that you notice
in the soft light of the after-storm
